Therma-Tru Roofing: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Therma-Tru-compatible roofing components throughout Orlando, and most replacement jobs run between $400 and $1,800 installed, depending on which part failed and how much decking or flashing needs to come with it. You’ll usually know something’s wrong before you see it: a dark streak on the ceiling, granules piling in the gutter after a hard rain, or a shingle that flaps when the afternoon thunderstorm rolls through. If your Therma-Tru roof is older than a decade, the first thing to fail is rarely the shingle itself. It’s the flashing, the underlayment, or a penetration that was sealed once and never checked again.
We’re an independent Orlando contractor, not a Therma-Tru dealer or affiliate. What that means for you: we match the part to your roof rather than pushing a brand because we’re obligated to. And we tell you the price before anything gets ordered.
Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

Therma-Tru entered the roofing market as a door manufacturer first, which matters more than you’d think. Their roofing products lean on composite and engineered materials that share tooling and specs with their door skins, so the part numbers don’t always line up the way they do with GAF or Owens Corning. If you’re holding a faded label, check the underside of the shingle or the back of the ridge cap for a stamped series code. Common Orlando-area installs include the TruSlate and TruTile composite lines, plus a handful of metal edge and flashing kits that went in between 2010 and 2018.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see constantly: Therma-Tru’s composite slate and tile profiles are slightly narrower than natural slate and standard concrete tile. A generic replacement piece will fit visually from the curb and leak within a season. The profile depth and the nail line are different enough that you can’t shim it. When we order, we match the series code, not just “gray slate.” If the label is gone, we measure the exposure and the butt thickness on site.
As for OEM versus aftermarket: for Therma-Tru composite, we buy OEM when the piece is visible from the street. The color lot matters. For underlayment, fasteners, and hidden flashing, we use quality commercial equivalents that equal or exceed spec. You don’t pay a brand premium on something nobody sees.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Roofing Is Failing
- Granules in the gutter that look like coffee grounds. Orlando’s UV breaks down the asphalt binder faster than northern climates. Once the granule layer thins, the mat underneath bakes and cracks. This is the earliest warning sign on composite Therma-Tru shingles, usually visible around year 8 to 12.
- A soft spot you can feel from inside the attic. If the plywood sheathing feels spongy after a rain, the underlayment failed before the shingle did. Florida’s afternoon downpours pool at the eaves, and once water sits, it wicks under even a good shingle. You’re feeling rot, not just dampness.
- Flashing that’s pulling away at the chimney or skylight. Therma-Tru roofs in Orlando live and die by their flashings. The thermal swing here, hot attic mornings and cool rainy evenings, works metal loose over a few years. Once the seal breaks at a penetration, the leak is a matter of weeks, not months.
- Ridge caps lifting on the windward side. The prevailing storms come from the southwest through Orlando. If your ridge caps are curled on that side only, the adhesive strip has cooked and the mechanical bond is what’s left. A windy August will finish the job.
- Ceiling stains that appear days after rain, not during. Water travels sideways along rafters and drops at the lowest point. A stain near an exterior wall often traces back to a penetration ten feet away. By the time you see it, the leak path is established and widening.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Orlando homeowners, Therma-Tru roofing replacement parts and repairs land in these ranges:
- Individual composite shingle or tile replacement: $400 – $800 (includes matching, staging, and sealant)
- Flashing repair at a penetration (pipe boot, chimney, skylight): $600 – $1,200 depending on access and how much surrounding material must be lifted
- Ridge cap re-bedding for a section: $500 – $1,000
- Full underlayment replacement under a valley or eave section: $1,200 – $1,800
Every number above includes the part, labor to remove and dispose of failed material, and the fasteners and sealants we use. You get the written price before work starts, and the work itself is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No change orders, no “we found more once we opened it up” phone call. If the price moves, it moves before you’ve signed, never after.
DIY or Call Us?
If you’re comfortable on a ladder and the damaged area is a single shingle on a low-slope section, you can safely inspect it. Take photos of the label, measure the exposed portion, and check the attic for daylight. What you should not do is climb a two-story Orlando roof in July, pull up flashing around a skylight, or work near the eave edge on a steep pitch. Those are the jobs where we see too many homeowners take a fall that costs more than the roof repair.
Also worth knowing: a bad DIY patch on Therma-Tru composite often voids whatever transferable warranty remains. The manufacturer wants a trained hand because the profiles don’t forgive improvisation. Call (850) 920-7745 and Isaac Pruett will tell you straight whether it’s worth hiring us or whether you can knock it out yourself. Tell me what the problem is. We’ll figure out the rest from there.
FAQs

Therma-Tru composite roofing typically lasts 20 to 30 years in Orlando, but the underlayment and flashing fail first, usually around year 12 to 15. Our flat, hot roof decks cook the underside of the material in a way northern installs never experience, so the shingle surface might look fine while the waterproofing underneath is gone. Call (850) 920-7745 and we’ll tell you honestly what condition yours is in before you spend on repairs.
Yes, if the damage is isolated to a single area and the surrounding material is sound. Most Orlando Therma-Tru roofs we see need flashing work or a few pieces replaced, not a full tear-off. We’ll repair what fails and leave what’s working. Call (850) 920-7745 for a free estimate, and we’ll tell you if a repair makes sense or if you’re throwing money at a roof that’s already done.
Most single-part replacements, a shingle, a section of flashing, a ridge cap run, take two to four hours on site. Larger flashing jobs that require lifting surrounding material may run a full day. We schedule the work, show you who’s coming by name and photo before they arrive, and leave the job site clean the same day.
We stock common Therma-Tru profiles, flashings, underlayment, and sealants on our trucks for the series codes we see most often across Orlando. If your exact color lot or series is one we don’t carry, we order it and schedule the swap for the day it arrives. No open-ended waiting. Call (850) 920-7745 with your model or series code and we’ll confirm same-day whether we have your part at the shop.
