Techo-Bloc Home Additions & ADU: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
If you’re planning a home addition or ADU with Techo-Bloc hardscape materials in Orlando, you’re looking at an installed range of $45,000 to $130,000 for the construction, with Techo-Bloc paver components typically running $3,500 to $18,000 depending on the footprint. We stock Techo-Bloc pavers, wall blocks, and edge restraints for Orlando projects and can usually have materials on site within 5 to 10 business days. Most Orlando homeowners reach out to us after realizing their existing hardscape wasn’t spec’d for Florida’s wet-dry freeze cycles, or when a first addition revealed that the paver base, not the pavers themselves, is what failed.
Here’s the reality we see across Orlando, from Winter Park to Dr. Phillips: a home addition or ADU is a structural project first and a hardscape project second. Techo-Bloc products are excellent, but they’re only as stable as the base beneath them. Central Florida’s sandy soil compresses unevenly, and our rainy season from June through September will find every shortcut in your base prep within two years. We build these projects assuming the grade will shift, and we spec the Techo-Bloc system accordingly.
Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To

Techo-Bloc’s product lines for home additions and ADU hardscaping break into three families: the Blu 60 and Blu 80 paver series for driveways and heavy-traffic approaches, the Mista and Para wall systems for retaining walls and raised foundations at the addition’s edge, and the Villagio or Industria pavers for walkways and patio areas connecting the ADU to the main house. The compatibility gotcha in Orlando specifically: not every Techo-Bloc paver line is rated for the same freeze-thaw performance, and Central Florida does get hard freezes in January and February even if they’re brief. You want pavers with a low water absorption rate, ideally under 4%, or you’ll see spalling within five to eight years.
Each Techo-Bloc paver has the series name stamped on the bottom face, and most bundles carry the lot code on the plastic wrapping. If your original installer didn’t leave that information, snap a photo of the paver’s top texture and edge profile, and we can identify it in about ten minutes. For OEM versus aftermarket: we always recommend OEM Techo-Bloc for visual consistency, since aftermarket color-matching across different production runs is a coin flip at best. Where we will use quality aftermarket equivalents is on unseen components like polymeric sand, geotextile fabric, and base aggregate, because those are commodity materials and the local vendors in Orlando stock excellent options.
Mason Remodeling Co Orlando is an independent service provider and is not affiliated with Techo-Bloc. We simply install and service their products because, over two decades of work in Central Florida, we’ve found them to hold up better than most alternatives when installed correctly.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Home Additions & ADU Hardscape Is Failing
- Paver shifting or sinking near the addition’s foundation line. This almost always traces back to base material that wasn’t compacted in lifts, or a missing geotextile layer. Orlando’s sandy loam migrates, and once it moves under the base, the pavers follow. We see this most often where downspouts from the new addition dump water directly onto the paver edge.
- Water pooling against the ADU slab after rain. A properly graded Techo-Bloc installation slopes away from the structure at a minimum of 1 inch per 4 feet. When water pools, the grade has settled. That standing water will eventually wick into the paver joints, wash out the polymeric sand, and accelerate base erosion under freeze-thaw cycles.
- Retaining wall blocks leaning or separating at the seams. Techo-Bloc walls use a lip-lock system, so separation means the wall has been pushed past its design load. In Orlando, this happens when a wall built for 3 feet of retained soil gets asked to hold 4 feet plus a soggy rainy-season surcharge. The failure is gradual, but it doesn’t self-correct.
- Polymeric sand disappearing from joints. If you can sweep joints clean with a broom and they don’t refill, the sand has either washed out or was never properly activated. This is the number one early-warning sign we find on Orlando hardscape. Left unchecked, the pavers start shifting against each other and edge restraints fail.
- Cracking or spalling on paver surfaces near the addition. Techo-Bloc pavers are dense, but constant exposure to pool chemicals, fertilizer runoff, or pressure-washing at too high a PSI will eat the surface. Once spalling starts, the paver is compromised and replacing individual units is the only fix.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Orlando homeowners, here’s what we quote on Techo-Bloc hardscape replacement around home additions and ADUs:
- Full paver driveway replacement with Techo-Bloc Blu 60: $7,000 to $18,000 installed, depending on driveway length and whether we need to remove and haul old concrete or asphalt.
- Paver patio for an ADU entry or outdoor sitting area: $3,500 to $11,000 installed, with the range driven by paver series, square footage, and whether we need retaining walls at the perimeter.
- Retaining wall repair or rebuild with Techo-Bloc Para or Mista blocks: $4,000 to $10,000 for a typical Orlando lot where walls run 20 to 40 linear feet at 2 to 4 feet high. If the wall is holding back the addition’s grade, the price climbs because we engineer for surcharge.
- Base correction and re-lay of existing Techo-Bloc pavers: $3,000 to $8,000, which includes removing the pavers, re-excavating and re-compacting the base with proper aggregate, new geotextile, and re-installation with fresh polymeric sand.
Every quote includes the tear-out of failed material, haul-away from your Orlando property, base preparation, paver installation, joint sand, and edge restraints. You get a written line-item price before any work starts, and the workmanship is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the installation isn’t right within a year of completion, we return and make it right at no cost to you.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things you can safely check yourself. First, walk the perimeter after a heavy rain and mark any spot where water pools against the structure’s edge. Second, inspect the joints: if you can press a screwdriver into the joint sand with light pressure and it crumbles, the sand has failed. That’s useful information to share with us when you call. What you should not do is attempt to re-level pavers, rebuild a wall, or re-compact a base yourself. These are high-weight, high-consequence installations where an improperly compacted base under a Techo-Bloc driveway will telegraph every flaw within six months. There’s no safety-critical danger like a garage spring under tension, but there’s a real financial danger in doing it twice.
Tell me what the problem is. We’ll figure out the rest from there. Call us at (850) 920-7745 and describe what you’re seeing on your Orlando property. We’ll start with a phone conversation and, if it makes sense, schedule a site visit with a written estimate.
FAQs

Techo-Bloc pavers themselves typically last 25 to 40 years in Central Florida’s climate, but the installation system, base, joints, and edge restraints, has a functional life of 15 to 25 years before it needs rework. The pavers rarely fail; the base beneath them does. When we rebuild, we spec the base for a 30-year service life, which pairs well with the paver’s own longevity. Call (850) 920-7745 if you want us to assess what’s currently failing on your addition’s hardscape.
Yes, and in about half the Orlando jobs we see, a targeted repair is the right call. If the base is still solid and the problem is isolated, for example, one sinking corner or a 15-foot section of wall leaning, we can lift and re-lay the affected pavers or rebuild that wall section. The repair range on those jobs is typically $3,000 to $8,000. If the base has failed across the full footprint, a full re-lay ends up more cost-effective than chasing individual spots. Call (850) 920-7745 for an honest read on which situation you have, estimates are free.
A typical paver patio replacement takes 2 to 4 working days from demolition to final joint sand. A full driveway or addition-adjacent hardscape with retaining walls runs 5 to 10 working days, depending on the size of the crew and Orlando’s weather. We schedule around the afternoon thunderstorms from June through September, which can push a day here or there. You’ll have a written schedule before we start, and if it changes, we tell you why on the phone, not by surprise. Call (850) 920-7745 to get a timeline for your specific project.
We order Techo-Bloc product direct from the distributor for every Orlando project, which means we handle the freight, the lot matching, and the site delivery. We don’t maintain a full Techo-Bloc yard in Orlando because pavers are heavy, bulky, and color lots need to match within a project. What we do keep on hand is the supporting material: geotextile fabric, polymeric sand, edge restraints, and base aggregate, so those components never hold up your schedule. Call (850) 920-7745 and we’ll check current Techo-Bloc lead times for your series.
