Oldcastle Driveway & Pavers: The Orlando Owner’s Guide

If you’re searching for Oldcastle driveway and pavers help in Orlando, you’ve likely got a sunken paver, a cracked apron, or a driveway base that’s shifting after Florida’s rainy season. We stock Oldcastle-compatible pavers and install full driveway and paver replacements across the Orlando metro, with most paver driveway projects running $7,000 to $18,000 installed. The honest answer on repair versus replacement depends on what’s underneath the surface, and that’s the part most homeowners can’t see until someone pulls up a few pavers and looks.

Call (850) 920-7745

You usually find the problem the same way: you notice a low spot pooling water after an afternoon storm, or a paver rocks underfoot near the garage, or the edge row has started wandering into the lawn. By the time it’s visible, the base layer has usually been failing for a while. Orlando’s sandy soil and daily summer downpours are hard on paver installations, and Oldcastle products are no exception when the base prep wasn’t done to spec for our climate.

Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

Oldcastle manufactures pavers under several product lines you’ll see across Orlando driveways: the Holland Stone series, the hexagonal Hexpaver system, and the larger-format Plaza and Promenade slabs. Each line uses different joint widths and bedding requirements, and mixing series during a repair is the most common mistake we see. A Holland Stone paver is 4″ x 8″, but its actual dimensions run slightly under nominal, and the chamfered edge means spacing matters more than it looks. If you’re matching an existing installation, take a paver with you to the supplier or send us a photo before ordering replacements. Color lots vary even within the same Oldcastle line, so patches using a fresh pallet against five-year-old sun-faded pavers will always show.

Oldcastle also makes retaining wall blocks and edge restraints under names like Belfast and Diamond, and those fail differently than the pavers themselves: they crack, tip, or lose their lip. We’re an independent Orlando service provider, not affiliated with Oldcastle, which means we recommend whatever the project actually needs, OEM or equivalent, based on what’s still manufactured and what’s been discontinued. Some older Oldcastle series are no longer produced, and when that happens we source compatible aftermarket matches or re-cut existing pavers to fill gaps.

Signs Your Oldcastle Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Pooling water in low spots after rain. This means the base has settled or washed out underneath. In Orlando’s sandy soil, inadequate compaction or missing edge restraint lets fines migrate, and the paver follows the water down.
  • Rocking or wobbly pavers when you step on them. A loose paver usually means the sand bedding layer has eroded. It’s tempting to ignore, but every rain event washes more sand out through the joint, and the problem spreads laterally.
  • Pavers shifting or separating near the edges. Edge restraint failed or was never installed properly. Once the perimeter lets go, the whole field starts drifting, and your clean driveway line turns into a slow-motion landslide.
  • Weeds or ants pushing up between joints. That’s organic material filling the joint sand. Ants are particularly destructive in Florida because their nests displace base material from underneath. You’ll see small piles of sand at the surface, and that sand came from where it was supposed to stay.
  • Visible cracks through multiple pavers in a line. A crack running across several units suggests a structural point load, often a tree root or a vehicle that exceeded the base’s capacity. One cracked paver is bad luck; a line of them is a message from the base layer.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

For an Orlando paver driveway replacement using Oldcastle-compatible units, installed pricing typically runs $7,000 to $18,000 depending on driveway size, access, existing base condition, and whether we’re salvaging any of the old pavers. Most standard two-car driveways in the Orlando area land between $9,000 and $14,000. A paver patio follows a similar cost structure, usually $3,500 to $11,000. What changes the number is what’s under the pavers: if the original base was thin or has been infiltrated by roots and ant colonies, we’re rebuilding it, not slapping new pavers on a failing foundation.

Here’s what you’ll see on the written line-item quote from us:

  • Demolition and haul-off of the existing pavers and base material
  • Excavation to correct depth, typically 8 to 10 inches in central Florida soil
  • Compacted limestone base installed in lifts, not one big dump-and-roll
  • Bedding sand and paver installation with proper joint spacing
  • Edge restraint installation along the full perimeter
  • Joint sand compacted into the joints, plus a second pass after settling

The price covers labor, materials, and cleanup, and it’s written down before we start. No change orders because the truck showed up and discovered something we should have found during the estimate. The workmanship is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right within a year of completion, we come back and make it right at no cost. Call (850) 920-7745 and Isaac will walk the site with you before you commit to anything.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things you can safely check on your own: whether edge restraints are still in place, whether joint sand has washed out after a big storm, and whether you can see visible ant activity. Adding a bag of polymeric sand to obvious joint gaps is a reasonable temporary measure for an Orlando homeowner. What we’d caution against is the deeper repair work. Excavating and recompacting a paver base by hand is back-breaking labor that rarely solves the problem, and doing it wrong means paying someone to redo it twice. The dangerous part isn’t the pavers themselves; it’s the heavy lifting, compacting equipment, and the temptation to skip proper drainage and hope for the best.

If you’ve got a couple of loose pavers and just want them reset, we can do that as a smaller repair visit. If the base has failed, there’s no shortcut. Tell me what the problem is. We’ll figure out the rest from there.
