Moen Home Additions & ADU: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
When you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Orlando and you want Moen fixtures throughout, the installed cost typically runs $45,000 to $130,000 for the addition itself, with Moen faucets, shower systems, and bath fixtures spec’d into the project. We install Moen products across every home addition and ADU we build in Orlando, from rough-in plumbing to final trim. Most homeowners come to us because they’re either planning a new build and want to get the Moen spec right the first time, or they’ve got an existing Moen product that failed during a remodel and the timeline just got complicated.
Here’s the thing most people don’t realize until they’re in the middle of it: a home addition or ADU isn’t just framing and drywall. The plumbing decisions you make at rough-in dictate which Moen valves, trims, and finishes will fit six months later when the tile goes up. Get the valve body wrong and you’re opening a wall to fix it. That’s the call we get most often from Orlando homeowners, and it’s a call we’d rather prevent than repair.
Which Moen Models This Applies To

Moen’s product lines break into three rough-in families that matter for additions and ADUs: M-CORE (their universal valve system), Posi-Temp (pressure-balancing, the workhorse), and Moentrol (volume and temperature control). The compatibility gotcha we see constantly in Orlando additions: M-CORE valves accept M-CORE cartridges and trims only. You cannot put a Posi-Temp trim on an M-CORE valve body, even though they look nearly identical on a showroom wall. We’ve had to walk more than one homeowner through that after they bought a trim kit online and it didn’t mate up.
For ADU kitchens and baths, we spec Moen’s Weymouth or Align series for a clean, consistent look across faucets, shower trims, and bath fillers. OEM Moen parts are what we install by default, because the cartridge tolerances and finish matching are exact. There are quality aftermarket cartridges out there, but on a new build the savings are maybe $15 to $40 per valve and the warranty gap is real. For an ADU you’re going to rent or live in for twenty years, the OEM part is the right call.
Quick note for clarity: Mason Remodeling Co Orlando is an independent contractor. We install and service Moen products but we’re not affiliated with Moen Corporation. That means we answer to you, not to a manufacturer’s policy manual.

Signs Your Moen Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
If you’re mid-project or in the first year after your Orlando ADU is complete, here’s what actually goes wrong and why:
- Water pressure drops in the new shower only. Usually a Moen cartridge clogged with construction debris that never got flushed properly at rough-in. The valve body is fine, but the cartridge screens are packed with drywall dust and PEX shavings.
- Hot water crosses into the cold line. The pressure-balancing spool inside a Posi-Temp cartridge sticks, letting water bleed from the hot side to the cold. You’ll feel warm water from the cold tap, and it’s a cartridge swap, not a plumbing repipe.
- Trim plate won’t sit flush against the tile. The valve body was set too deep at rough-in because the tile thickness wasn’t accounted for. In Orlando ADUs we see this when the wall gets furred out after plumbing inspection.
- Faucet finish is pitting or clouding. Florida water is hard, and if the ADU sits on well water or an unmaintained softener, even Moen’s Spot Resist finish will eventually etch. It’s a finish issue, not a plumbing leak.
- Dripping that won’t stop even after a new cartridge. The valve body seat is scored, usually from debris passing through during the first week of use. You can’t polish the seat. The valve body gets replaced, which in an Orlando ADU means cutting an access panel or pulling tile.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a Moen fixture replacement or valve swap inside an existing Orlando home addition or ADU, plan on $350 to $900 for a shower valve or tub/shower trim swap, $200 to $500 for a faucet cartridge replacement, and $150 to $400 for a tub spout diverter. If the valve body itself has to come out, you’re looking at $1,200 to $2,500 depending on what has to be opened and repaired. All of those numbers include the Moen part, labor, and the written guarantee on our work. If your project is a full addition or ADU build, the Moen fixtures are spec’d into the $45,000 to $130,000 scope, and we give you a written price on the entire job before any work starts. That’s not a promotion. It’s how we run every project in Orlando.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a Moen cartridge is a reasonable DIY job if you can shut the water off and you have the Moen cartridge puller tool. But here’s the honest warning: if the cartridge stem snaps inside the valve body, which happens often in Florida because mineral buildup welds it in place, you now need the valve body replaced. That’s a wall opening job. And if it’s a M-CORE valve, the tooling is proprietary and most homeowners don’t have it. We’d rather you call us before it turns into a tile repair. Tell me what the problem is. We’ll figure out the rest from there.
FAQs

In Orlando’s hard water, a Moen cartridge typically lasts 7 to 10 years before the pressure-balancing spool starts sticking or a drip develops. If you flush the lines properly at rough-in and maintain a water softener, you’ll get the long end of that range. Call (850) 920-7745 and we’ll tell you if yours is actually failing or just needs a flush.
Yes, about 8 out of 10 Moen valve issues in Orlando are fixed with a cartridge and seal replacement, no valve body work needed. The exceptions are scored valve seats, cracked bodies, or a snapped stem lodged in the bore. Call (850) 920-7745 and we’ll quote the repair path before you spend a dollar.
A trim and cartridge swap on a shower or tub fixture takes about 2 to 3 hours including water shutoff and testing. If the valve body has to be replaced, plan for a half day plus whatever wall repair follows. Call (850) 920-7745 for a time estimate on your specific setup.
We carry the most common Moen Posi-Temp and M-CORE cartridges, trim kits, and tub spout diverters on our trucks in Orlando, so most swaps happen same visit. Specialty finishes or less common trim lines are ordered and arrive within a week. Call (850) 920-7745 with your model number and we’ll confirm inventory before we roll.
