Sakrete Kitchen Remodeling: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
Sakrete kitchen remodeling in Orlando typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 installed, and most full remodels take three to six weeks depending on scope. We stock Sakrete-compatible setting materials, underlayments, and leveling compounds on our trucks, which means we’re not waiting on a supply house run when your project hits the mid-point and the floor needs flattening before tile goes down. Most Orlando homeowners discover they need Sakrete-specific work when they pull up old flooring in a 1950s block home near Conway or a 1980s track house in MetroWest and find the slab has settled, cracked, or was never flat to begin with.
We’re an independent Orlando contractor, not affiliated with Sakrete, but we work with their products every week because they hold up in Florida’s humidity and slab conditions better than most. If you’ve got a failed floor prep job, a countertop substrate that’s crumbling, or a backsplash that won’t stay bonded, you’re in the right place.
Which Sakrete Products This Applies To

Sakrete makes a full line of concrete and masonry products, and in kitchen remodeling we’re almost always working with three families: floor levelers and underlayments (their Self-Leveling Underlayment and Sand Mix), surface bonding agents (their Concrete Bonding Adhesive), and repair mortars for patching slabs before tile or vinyl goes down. The product label will show a SKU and a coverage chart; take a photo of the bag before you throw it out, because the coverage rate drives how many bags the job needs and we don’t guess at that math.
The gotcha with Sakrete for Orlando homes is the slab itself. Homes in Audubon Park and Colonialtown built before 1970 often have slabs with high moisture vapor emissions, and a standard self-leveler will tent and crack within a year if you skip the moisture barrier first. We spec the underlayment to the slab condition, not just the floor covering going on top. OEM Sakrete bags are what we use on most jobs because the mix is consistent from pallet to pallet. There are cheaper aftermarket levelers, and they work fine for a shed floor, but we won’t put them under your kitchen tile.

Signs Your Sakrete Kitchen Remodeling Prep Is Failing
- Tile popping loose from the floor. This usually means the leveling compound wasn’t bonded to the slab, often because the slab wasn’t primed or was too smooth. We see it in east Orlando homes where builders over-troweled the original slab.
- Hollow sounds under the tile. Tap with a screwdriver handle. A sharp, solid ring is good. A dull thud means voids under the tile, which is a self-leveler that didn’t flow flat or a thinset that skinned over before the tile was set.
- Grout lines cracking in straight patterns. When cracks run in a line following the slab beneath, the underlayment has cracked with it. That’s a slab movement issue, not a grout issue, and patching grout over it will fail again.
- Countertop substrate crumbling at the edge. If you’ve got a concrete countertop or a mortar bed that’s flaking and sandy to the touch, moisture from Orlando’s humidity has gotten in and the mix is degrading, usually because it was never sealed.
- Leveling compound dusting or powdering under cabinets. White powder means the Sakrete was mixed too wet or cured too fast in an unconditioned house during a July tear-out. The cure was compromised, and the surface layer is now failing.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Full Sakrete kitchen remodeling in Orlando runs $14,000 to $45,000, but that’s the whole project, not just the material. If you’re only repairing a failed underlayment or re-leveling a floor before new tile, you’re looking at the lower end of that range for smaller jobs, $9,000 to $20,000, depending on square footage and how much of the old prep has to come out. A countertop substrate repair with new surface runs $2,000 to $6,500, and a full backsplash replacement with proper bonding runs $800 to $2,500.
We give you a written price before any work starts, not a verbal ballpark that grows later. That price covers material, labor, haul-off of the old prep, and cleanup at the end of every day. If the work we do isn’t right, it’s covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise, which means we come back and fix it at no cost to you for a full year from the completion date. Those are the terms, and they’re written down on every quote we hand out.
DIY or Call Us?
You can check a few things safely before you pick up a phone. Look at whether cracks in tile follow slab lines. Check if the floor has hollow spots. Pull a floor register and look at the slab edge to see if a moisture barrier was ever installed. Those observations save us time and save you money on the estimate.
Where DIY goes wrong is mixing and pouring self-leveler in an Orlando house. Once you mix a bag of Sakrete leveler, you’ve got about 20 to 30 minutes of working time before it starts to set, and in Florida’s humidity that window shrinks. If you miss the window, the batch is dead and you’re chipping it back out with a hammer drill. If the slab has moisture, the pour fails even if you mixed it perfectly. This is one of those jobs where doing it twice costs more than doing it once with someone who’s poured slabs in Dr. Phillips, Winter Park, and Lake Nona. We’re here for that. Call (850) 920-7745 and tell us what you’re seeing under that loose tile.
FAQs

A properly installed Sakrete self-leveling underlayment with a moisture barrier lasts 20-plus years under normal residential use. Failure before that is almost always an installation problem, not a product problem. Call (850) 920-7745 if yours failed early and we’ll tell you what we’re seeing.
Small voids and isolated cracks can sometimes be epoxy-injected and re-bonded, but if the bond between the leveler and the slab has failed across a wide area, the fix is full removal and re-pour. We’ll tell you which situation you have before we quote anything, and the estimate is free.
Most Orlando kitchen floor prep jobs take two to four days, including demo of the old underlayment, slab prep, moisture barrier, and the new pour with a day of cure time before tile. Larger kitchens or slabs with significant damage can push that to a week. Call (850) 920-7745 for your specific timeline after we see the slab.
We stock Sakrete levelers, sand mixes, and bonding agents on our trucks for standard kitchen jobs, so most projects don’t wait on material. Specialty mixes for unusual slab conditions are ordered locally and typically arrive same-week in Orlando. Call (850) 920-7745 and we’ll tell you what we have on the truck today.
